Based on comments received from periodontal residents and program directors the Periodontal Resident Recruitment Guidelines
were implemented in order to create a stress-free, cooperative environment for program directors and applicants. The guidelines are intended to allow students the opportunity to make an informed decision on which periodontal program they would like to attend after visiting and interviewing at all the institutions they wish. Per the guidelines, periodontal residency programs shall not require an applicant to give confirmation of acceptance prior to the Tuesday after Labor Day of each year. For the 2012 recruitment cycle (programs beginning July 2013), the date is Tuesday, September 4, 2012.
The AAP Education Committee will review all complaints of programs which may be violating the Recruitment Guidelines. Programs found in violation of the Recruitment Guidelines will be removed from the Cooperative Institutions List below.
Note: Several U.S. programs chose not to sign the Recruitment Guidelines agreement due to various reasons. The Recruitment Guidelines apply to U.S.-based, non-military programs.
